Prosperity Preachers

You may have seen them on TV but never knew what they were called. You know the ones. They claim God will bless you if you just send them money. God wants to make you rich. You just have to invest in their ministry first.

Does God really work that way? Absolutely not! What does the Bible say?

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.    Mark 10:25 KJV

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24 KJV

Who, or what, is mammon? Mammon is sometimes depicted as an ancient god, other times as a demon. The actual word mammon means riches, but is used in the connotation of riches being the master. Worshiping money makes it a god so, I guess, mammon really is a god. It is just not the true god.

How does God feel about preachers using his name to make money? The Bible has something to say about that as well.

13 And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:

15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;

16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.   John 2:13-16 KJV

What are we to make of these preachers? Are they merely misguided men who think they really are preaching the word of God? Or are they just in it for themselves? It is difficult to believe they think they are preaching the word of God, when the Bible contradicts them in so many places.

What harm can it do if you send in your money to them? Can you afford it? If you can’t, it is obvious. If you can, then what does the Bible say? Are you blameless?

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.  2 Peter 2:1-3 KJV

If you follow “pernicious ways”, are you not going against God? Are you not supporting them in their blasphemy? Do you think God will be happy with you? Do you really want to follow them into hell?

At the end, the choice is yours. Do you want to hear God say, “Well done my good and faithful servant”? Or will you be satisfied to hear, “I never knew you.” Who do you want to worship, God, or mammon?
